DESIGNING FOR

Creators are categorized by providing structure through innovation. At their heart they are visionaries and big picture thinkers, striving for authenticity and often perfection. These imaginative personalities, thrive in organized chaos and spaces that celebrate the creative process. Their environments provide inspiration, and are a form of self-expression often reflecting their internal thoughts. In Design, the Creator is not afraid of bold color or unexpected elements, such as a contrasting print, a unique chair, or a loud light fixture. Organic forms are often used to ignite creative thinking and add a splash of whimsy. Creatives’ spaces often contain elements that are realizations of a vision.
The Creator’s main fears include loss of inspiration, mediocrity, and being stifled. Actively designing to minimize these fears can help Creator’s reach their highest potential. For example, implementing tall ceilings creates the illusion of space that is both physical and mental, allowing occupants to not feel stifled. Using adaptable or multipurpose elements allows the Creator to stimulate new ideas and easily adjust to inspiration. Similarly, the implementation of new technology inspires Creators to push boundaries on their best work.
Collaboration spaces are important when catering to the Creator, as these spaces allow for the exchange of ideas, and are a hub for innovation. The Creator is all about pushing boundaries, paving the way for new and exciting change, so avoid repetitive elements and overtly trendy items.
When designing for the Creator Archetype there are key elements and principles of design to keep in mind. Using these as a guide will help you focus on how to inspire the inner Creator through your designs.
With these basics in hand, there are infinite design possibilities for an environment that will support and inspire the Creator and allow creative process to thrive. Think back to these essentials as your designing a space, and reaffirm that each decision pushes the design narrative towards the selected archetype. This will ensure that your built environment caters directly to the Creator’s needs.
